She came through for a second time early this morning, giving birth sometime between midnight and 7 AM. There were 24 live young, 2 stillborn, and 8 unfertilized ova. They were very calm, with only a couple of the neonates giving a half-hearted strike as I pulled them all out. The rest payed little attention to my hand as I picked them up. They seem to have better color than previous litters, with all having a nice deep green background. This is the third litter sired by Jud’s great male, which is probably the calmest green anaconda on the planet. The neonates averaged 262 grams and 778 millimeters(~30 in.) in length. Very solid young snakes and very consistent in size compared to other litters. It will be interesting to see how the dates of first shed compare to her previous litter, which all shed earlier than most green anaconda neonates. I have posted a few photos below. Thanks for looking,

Kelly

thanks again for the photos to use and all the other info. THe display went pretty well and people enjoyed it. I got to have a few conversations with Mark O'Shea about Eunectes as well and he didn't think it was a bad display at somewhat last minute circumstances either. Lutz Dirksen was also supportive when I contacted him so I also have you to thank there.

its gotta feel great pulling out those greens.

Sorry I have not gotten to thanking you earlier. Shortly after the show I had some real bad vision problems and I was in the hospital for a while with a rather surprising diagnosis.

Once again...congrats and many thanks

went well. It must have been interesting speaking with O'Shea about his Eunectes experiences. I have never met Dirksen, but would really like to talk with him sometime also. Thanks again,

Kelly

Congrats to you and Jud on another successful and beautiful litter. I wish you the best with all of them. Keep one of the little females reserved for me. Bill.

Congratulations Kelly
Sounds like quite a litter.
I know I'm going to keep a few of mine, I don't know if you would be interested in trading a female for female.
Kind of new blood type of thing.
Let me know.
BTW my first one shed today.

are there any others that appear to be opaque?

Kelly
They were born on the 10th so 12 days old. Which seem pretty quick to me.
So far 7 have shed.

It seems like they either have there first shed very shortly after birth or many weeks afterward. Very few seem to fall in between. And this can happen with neonates in the same litter.

Thanks Brian for your comments. It's been very interesting and a lot of fun working with Green Anacondas through the years. As Kelly has said so many times they are our favorite snake to work with because they are unlike any other large constrictors. Thanks again. Jud
