Jslover4ever211 Oct 18, 2005 08:42 PM

Hi all,

so a wile back my friend and I found this little guy and I've had him for quite a wile now. Tonight he had slime comming out of his mouth, and he had his little toes in it. I've never seen this before and I was kind of alarmed. You all seem to know a lot about toads and I was wanting to know what he was doing and if it was cause' he was sick or what. Any responce is greatly appriciated.! Thank you

Sounds like you've witnessed him eating his shedded skin. This is normal, but like you say...gross looking to us humans.

Well, that is really disgusting, but I'm glad to know it's nothing bad! How long do these guys grow? I'm for sure it's a guy toad, he's got his little vocal sack, and boy does he talk some times. With any luck I'll have pictures this weekend. He's got a decent sized environment, modled after the one he came from. He eats pretty good too. He seemed to be sold on the fact that his food came to him. Oh and he won't eat wax worms unless I feed them to him on my hand. I like him, the kids named him hopey. He's definatly more intreiging to me than frogs are.

thanks for the reply!!!

try moving the waxworms with a cop stick or small metal rod .on the floor of its cage to get it to take them better.

I'm not sure what kind of toad you have, but he will shed from time to time throughout his life, and of course he will relish his sheds by sometimes eating them. I usually have luck by kind of dropping the waxworm right in front of mine. This usually makes a little noise which gets their attention and also gets the waxworm to move about a little. They like movement of their prey and usually smack it right up!
