Apalachicola Kingsnakes

bdelator Oct 18, 2005 11:09 PM

Does anyone know if there are any breeders of Apalachicola Kingsnakes? I don't really see to many of them around anymore? Thanks in advance.

As a matter of fact I do. John Cherry/Cherryville Farms has a very nice group of Apalachicola kings. There are several posters here on the kingsnake forum that also work with them. They may chime in or send you an email. Good luck.

Hoping to have a few babies next year. It will be interesting to breed them again after a few years without them here.

Does anyone work with patternless Ap. Kings? The patternless has always been a favorite of mine. Thanks.

That first one is especially gorgeous....
no wonder they are so hard to find in the field.
there is no way the offspring wont be amazing.

ZeusS Oct 19, 2005 08:17 PM

The first one is absolutely amazing! That is the exact look I like so much. The patternless, to me, represents the classic Apalachicola King look. Good luck on producing some nice little ones in the spring.

I searched the planet and was able to find a female that was alot like that male pictured above- almost patternless. I guess it is a sex-link trait no doubt. Has anyone EVER seen a patternless female?? So, anyway, I bred a perfect male to the almost patternless female, I was trying to produce or line=breed for patternless, and not one of the clutch was patternless, nor even remotely patternless. All blotched or motley blotched type. It isn't just recessive, or whatever. Complicated or random occurance or a male thing, I don't know. But I gave up and sold them all off out of frustration . Felt like a failed attempt. I wish it would breed true.

crimsonking Oct 19, 2005 06:08 PM

I did that too in the past. In fact the best pair (for patternless babies) was pretty "plain" and mostly blotched.
I could not give away babies a few years ago, so the parents went...
I always liked the different colors as much as the different patterns, maybe more. I had some pink babies and some silver, some gold and some black. All over the place. One thing for sure they produced a bunch each year. On average 2 clutches of 20.
Maybe a renewed interest will be ahead.

Nice Kings Zee! Do you mind me asking where that male came from? Who found it? It's a beautiful Apalachicola King.

BlueKing Oct 20, 2005 08:45 PM

According to John Hays the male was dropped off/sold to a Tallahassee petstore by a local collector. He has a few old battlescars on him and a very slight "dent" in his midsection from an old (broken) rib injury. . . Otherwise he's a very healthy awesome lokking animal, and eats like there's no tomorrow . . . Hey Sean, sorry I missed you this year - hopefully I'll catch up with you next summer,

Ok, I remember that story now. Supposedly that pet store does get WC "goini" at times...wish they'd call me when they do. You going to around this area at all next year? I'm hoping to have as good a Spring as I did this year.

BlueKing Oct 21, 2005 09:15 PM

Yeah, I'll be coming your way soon. Just don't know yet if it'll be in April or June (depends on my job/new job - might be getting promoted very soon which could add to my work schedule & a lot more folks to supervise).

Very NICE! Did they have any babies this year? Love that female! She looks like a S.GA. Eastern X patternless goini!!! Not meant as an insult of course as I think she's awesome looking!

Thanx for the compliment.
they didn't breed this year (female did breed thou, produced 13 good eggs) ... hopefully they'll go next season. i'm not insulted in any way... i love that snake and her appetite is crazy... seems like she's always hungry.

Thanx again
