There are, or were herp books available for all the states you listed. Arkansas & Ill books are in print & should be easy to find on Amazon.com. Check out herp book dealers like Serpents Tale or Bibliomania for the out of print titles. Also check the dealer listings on kingsnake.com.

the gold standard is definitely the (oger tory peterson series)field guide to reptiles and amphibians of eastern and central norht america,by roger conant and joseph t. collins...i have/and or have seen most of the others, and this one is still my favorite(notably for range maps, identification, and has good plates, and now has a good number of photos too...but to be honest the drawings on the plates are plenty good enough, most very photolike in quality..

What you want are...

"Amphibians and Reptiles of Missouri" by Tom Johnson

and

"Amphibians and Reptiles in Kansas" by Joseph T. Collins and Suzanne L. Collins

Also...

"Amphibians and Reptiles of Arkansas" by Stan Trauth et al is good...
