Hello all, I have a few questions about the anal spurs of my male ball python. Hope that someone here can help.
My male is 19 months old and was introduced to my 2 1/2 year-old female in the beginning of August while repairs were being made to his heated. Unexpectedly (since neither snake had been cooled) they began mating.
The male shed yesterday, and while I was checking his tail for stuck skin I noticed that his right anal spur was very thin and short with a slightly malleable texture.
Could the spur have been damaged from courtship and mating with my female, or is this something that a vet should look at? Also, will the spur grow back with time like a fingernail? Since this snake is a pet first and foremost, his health is much more important than his ability to breed. However, will a damaged spur affect his ability to entice a female into mating?
Thank you for the help!
