Everted stomach

lenny Oct 19, 2005 04:21 PM

My treasured ornate horned frog baby just everted his stomach. I'm looking around for a veterinarian. Is there anything else I can do? How do I prevent this in the future?

prevention would depend on the cause. what is the substrate? what do you feed him? especially his most recent meals. i had it happen once, not sure if it was tongue, stomach or what. i didnt take him to a vet like i should have and he died within about a week.

He was on moist paper towels and I fed him 3/4 inch crickets.

wet paper towels are the best, and he should have been fine with crickets of that size. i hope you find a vet in time. good luck.

My Albino PacMan did the same thing. I came home, and couldn't believe my eyes. I don't know if this is common in PACMAN frogs, but it is very alarming to see, and my frog died.....
so if you get any more info on this horrible event, let me know.

It is pretty common in all frogs. I have seen just about every commmon pet store frog throw up its stomach. Horned frogs and african bullfrogs especially though, since they look so much bigger and people tend to overfeed them. Although tomato frogs are a big one too.

I normally see it with overfeeding. But it can be from a bunch of different things from overfeeding to deficiencies, etc.

So, what does one do when they find their frog has inverted its stomach?????? How do you handle this type of tragedy?

Get it to a vet ASAP. None of my frogs have ever done it. I have seen some swallow their stomachs back and live, but most just end up dying.

There are a number of possible causes for this including bacterial infections like red leg.
