peroxigard

tanias16 Oct 19, 2005 05:13 PM

Does anyone know where I can get some Peroxigard? Or something similar?
Peroxigard is a non toxic cleaner that can be used in reptile cages. I'm sick and tired of the long process involved in cleaning cages with bleach.

Thanks

Some pet stores carry Wipeout 1 & Wipeout 2, made specially for cleaning reptile cages & furniture, I use both. I even use Wipeout 3 which is for cleaning your hands

Why would you need a different kind of spray to clean the furniture? Couldn't you just use the same as the cage cleaner?

i think wipe out 2 is mainly for plastic... vs. the first version is for glass

I normally use steam to clean my cages. I have a portable steamer for cleaning cages. The extreme heat kills any parasites. Also my vet said it is safe to you use a mild soap for cleaning. So I use dish soap on the dishes and hideouts.

An expert reptile owner pointed out Chlorhexidine 2% to me. She said I could get it from my vet, and it is reptile safe. You only use 2 oz per 1 gallon of water so 1/2 a gallon will last you forever! It sounds like the perfect solution and I just wanted to share it with ya'll. Also known as Nolvasan.

It appears you can buy the generic here:

It is the KHR Chlor... about $18 shipped.

What I did is ask my vet for some. He didn't have any in stock so he called the pharmacy and put an order in for me. I'm just going to go by my local walgreens and pick up 1/2 gallon for 11 bucks.

You can buy a 4% chlorhexidine solution at your local walgreens! The brand name was something along the lines of Bibiclean, it comes in an 8 oz bottle and your pharmacists can probably point it out to you. All you have to do is mix 1 oz of the 4% with 1 oz of water and you've got yourself a 2% solution! Then mix the 2oz of the 2% solution with 1 gallon of water and start cleaning.
I am loving it.
I got a 32 oz special ordered by my vet for 13.oo dollars. Its going to last me forever.
