Two Mojaves, one looks much lighter...and updated Ember pic

EmberBall Oct 19, 2005 07:47 PM

I did a breeding loan last year, and we got 6 Mojaves from my unusual female, bred by a Mojave Het Hypo. We thought my female was a Hypo. Well, we got six Mojaves out of eight eggs, and the owner of the Mojave, who has seen alot more Mojaves than I have, said four looked "different." I honestly did not have a trained enough eye at the time to see any differece, but now, I can see a differece in the two Mojaves...yeah, it just took me 4 or so months of staring at them. I think these pics show that something is going on with the lighter Mojave, but who knows. Any thoughts? The other non Mojave is the Ember Ball, an updated pic, he is eating like a champ. Sorry about the smudge on the last pic, probably a fingerprint.

Of course it could be from your female.

But what if the lighter mojave is also het ghost? Was dad a particularly light colored mojave? I've read that pastel het ghosts are often particularly nice pastels. I've also heard of and seen cases where some het ghosts shed clear. Maybe ghost has some co-dominant tendencies.

Randy, thanks for the reply. The two Mojaves that I got out of the breeding loan are both poss het Hypo, based on the male adult Mojave being 100% het Hypo. So, yes, the female Mojave, the light looking one could be a Het Hypo. I have heard that Het Hypo Mojaves have a nicer look too. As for the adult male Mojave Het Hypo being lighter, or nicer than normal, I honestly did not take much of a look at him. I could not pick him out of a line up of only two Mojaves, I just never really looked at him closely at all. He was a Mojave, that was het Hypo, which was all that counted for me at the time. Both Mojaves in the pics came from the same clutch. I will probably take the male Ember Ball to the female Mojave, and see what happens. Here is a pic of mom.

I would definitely say that what you have there is a mojave x codom hypo. The differences are subtle, but you can definitely tell. ALso if you look at TSKs website, their mojave x codom hypo baby looks almost identical to your. I'd say you have quite the project on your hands.
