"How much is that Sulcata in the window?" - the cottage is ready...

Niki Jul 21, 2003 12:25 PM

after going in and out the door and window all morning he
settled down to a new "lookout". The pen is much roomier
too now with the addition of the cottage. I planted squares
of bermuda from the back of my yard to make the rocks
hold and lessen the incline

rushed to get it ready last night, still needs to be
painted inside above the 2 ft. melamine line. Probably
gonna go with a light green same as our bonus room in
the house. Has a motion sensor light on the corner.
Window is double hung, meaning the top or bottom can
be opened. Door is STEEL. Still need to clamp the fence
to the cottage and other small things. I used aspen
inside for now, just one bag spread out, he slept in
a corner last night just like he did in the house, it's
his same "cage" , just in another place.

I worried he'd look too small in there, but he looks all right.

That tortoise is living better than a lot of people!

Nice job!

This pen is absolutely fabulous. Niki, your posts are always so interesting and informational. The pictures illustrate and also entertain. I see a book here. Teddy's diary would be a "best-seller" for sure. And I will get in line for the first copy.

Very impressive! It looks awesome. Does it have fixtures suspended from the ceiling? For overhead heat this winter? What plans do you have for keeping him toasty? (Always thinking into the future for my Virgie.)

The electricity is run underground and has it's own breaker
in our breaker box. The wires are in protective piping until
the reach the cottage then they are run inside the wall
just like in a regular house to switches and outlets and sockets.
We've got a 4 switch set that has 4 seperate outlets so that
each can be controlled seperately (same as in the house), and
2 outlets with constant power (this will be for the air space
heating later) Also an overhead light and motion detector
lights have a switch inside the door. When the inside is
finished I'll show you, my husbands gonna build a frame for
the screen to set the light domes on, same as he had indoors.

Niki -

Do you use the aspen pellet bedding? If not, what is it? We're looking for something for George.
