hoping I'm just being overly cautious

I have a 2 month old red blood python I acquired a month ago. He's great, eating a f/t young adult mouse every week. Not aggressive although hisses everytime I change his water. I don't mind I enjoy the conversation. Anyway, I was holding him tonight before I was going to feed him and I was running my fingers down his body. When I got near his tail I felt a lump. At first I thought maybe he's getting ready to drop one. upon further examining him I found the lump to be pretty hard, and didn't seem to me to be a oncoming poop. It is located right above the cloaca, and I can move it around a slighty, with gentle pressure.

question is, Is it probably a normal lump and nothing to worry about? Or is it some kind of impaction (doubt it being that low) or any other odd thing. Please tell me this is just a normal part of his body.

I figure since he's eating I must be doing something right, but I'll give you my setup just to give you guys something to work with or rule out as a problem.

12 qt. rubbermaid, warm end 88f cool end 82, humidity 72%, water bowl in cage big enough for him to soak in, paper towl subsrate (was cypress mulch but had humidity issue) and a hide spot.

I did try a couple differen things trying to keep a good humidity because it was always way to high. At first I had cypress mulch substrate with a water bowl, and a tub of moist sphagnum moss. Well humidity was sky high. Tried taking out the cypress and just having the humidity chamber(sphagnum) and the water bowl with paper towls, still too high. So I took out the sphagnum and left the water and a paper towel sub.

Hope you can help,

Nate Danforth

Bloods will retain poo for a VERY long time. What you feel is most likely a urate lump. Just leave it be. It wont come out for a while, but when it does believe me it will come out. in abundance. This worried me when i got Hiss. Your baby will be fine tho. It is normal for the bloods.

Hey,
I agree with the previous reply. It is nothing to worry about, as the urate will eventually pass. That is all it is, hardened urate. Sometimes a good soak will help to cause a bm, or just plain leaving well enough alone as time will dictate a bm all by it self.

Thanks guys,

He's my first blood and I was worried. Glad to have you here when I need it. Let me say that this seems to be The MOST mature forum on kingsnake. There seems to be a real sense of community and a general love and focus on what's important, not petty arguments and general B.S. Thanks again and glad to be part of the group.

Nate
