R.I./staff infection What were you prescribed???

Quinton Oct 19, 2005 11:33 PM

I took my little guy in to the vet on the 10th of this mo. He had all of the classic signs of an R.I., swollen throat, mucus bubbles. I had lab work done and was told it was a staff infection. It was on the 14th I was prescribed Enrofloxin injections. One a day for seven days. The vet told me that it could take several months for this to clear up. I'm six days into injections and he seems to be getting worse.

I guess my questions are-

Is there anything better than what I was prescribed?

And

Wouldn't giving any animal an injection, SQ or IM, every day for several months seem cruel? To have no results...

Did he do a culture?

Yes, he did a culture. Had to send it off to a lab and everything.

If a culture was done, then I would assume that your snake has a particularly nasty strain of strep.

Did you raise the temperature in the tank or make any other husbandry modifications to boost the snakes immune system?
