My boy wont stop banging his nose

hunterjackson Oct 20, 2005 01:40 AM

Alright...

He has the worst snout banging history possible.....so now he has a free roam situation 5 days a week. 300 square feet, what more could a dragon ask for? He's in a heated room, with plenty of Natural and artificial sunlight (i measured it all, he's getting plenty of uv light from natural and mvb's).

300 square feet and he runs into walls still! No mirrors etc. Still rubs his nose. Plenty of climbing and what not. I think he's just crazy. Not to mention he tried to take on the cat the other day....which i quickly moved the cat into the bathroom.

Any help would be appreciated....prayers...anything.

Thanks!
Hunter

Since they are arboreal in nature, have you tried some nice strong (since I've seen this monster's pic) branches over-lapped in the center of the 300 feet for him to bask on? My dragons live in a very small area (and are smaller than that beast of yours-LOL) but they spend most of their time in the top of their enclosure, perched on chunks of grapevine my brother hacked down for me. They realy like it up high and really only come down to hunt, swim and foul the pool.

She has fake trees which i have attached a sort of rigging if you will that attach a type of gang plank too that she can run around on, it sounds kinda dangerous, but its safe.

She goes in them a bit, but stays on the ground a good bit hunting. she tries to eat all the time, looking for anything that might be food....she attacked a shoe lace, that could have been really bad, but thank god i was right there, i have since re-gone over everything, top to bottom.

Luckily, i have a year's supply of silvadine for him. I say her all the time, but i mean him.

Any other thoughts?
Hunter

Do you have your basking/UVB source set-up near your arboreal arrangement to encourage him to bask there? he sounds VERY active-which is great. My dragons jump/move from area to area among their vines/branches but will sometimes stay in the same area for hours. Perhaps your bug guy was a wild caught specimen, harvested at an older age, who is used to free roaming in the wild? I'm out of suggestions (which is rare-LOL)

Im prety sure he is cbb due to how he acts around ppl and eats etc. he takes mice readily as well as worms etc. also, he has never had parasites. whether cb or wc...he's great.

Does he bang or rub? if he is running into the sides of the cage, I recommend a soft mesh cage made out of solar netting. Reptariums are made out of solar netting, but are too small. you can buy solar netting from any garden store or online. If he is rubbing, it won't help, in that case I would suggest that a couple of females be added to the cage to keep him occupied.
