Mite question?

xerxes Oct 20, 2005 01:45 AM

I found out someone I know has a colombian bci and she invited me over to see him. Besides having a disturbingly messy cage, I noticed some sort of black insect looking thing on the animal. The best way I can describe it is, if anyone here has played Super Mario World on the NES and SNES, that it looks like one of the helmet beatles from the game and approx 1mm in diameter. Is this a mite? I've never seen one so I wanted to be sure before suggesting treatment. Any information would be of help. And to stay on subject, a picture of the rescue guyanan I received.

Sounds like a well fed mite to me. I had similar on my brazilian rainbow boa. They are much bigger when filled with blood. I suggest letting your friend know she has mites and should treat them. (prevent a mite or reptile relief are good)

Thanks Jeff and PHLdyPayne. It does look like a the ticks on google images just a little smaller and a bit rounder. Thanks for the information and will pass the provent-a-mite suggestion along.
