I'm seeing ads for "new line" Pastels but what makes them a new line? Or is this just another marketing ploy?

It's my understanding that they come from wild caught pastels - not from an established line.

That's my understanding as well. Of course, now how do you know it's really a new line. I heard rumors of people buying certain animals at shows and then reselling them as "new lines". Hard to prove a new line I would think - especially if it looks like everything else.

I don't understand why anyone would want to do that - most people look for an existing line - how many times have people come on here and asked which pastel line is the best... I think by taking an existing line and pretending it's new would be like shooting yourself in the foot. But maybe that's just their way of stiring up something "new" or passing of an ugly animal for something else. I guess I prefer tired and true (LOL).

Far as I know the only real advantage of getting a particular 'line' of an animal is to either get certain traits common to that line or to show fresh bloodlines/genetics to help freshening up the genepool of a breeder's collection.
