is an UTH okay to use with aspen bedding? like will it catch fire? also, is it okay for my snake to lay directly on it if hes burrowed under the bedding or will he burn himself?

I think your supposed to put a ceramic tile or aluminum foil over the UTH. Also put several paper towels on the floor and then place the aspen bedding so that even if he burrows he wont get burned.

not inside. its recommended to use some kind of temp controler because they do get hot. if you can't leave your hand on the glass then its too hot for the snake.

A uth is gonna get 135 or 140 unregulated. And while that may burn you animal it isn't going to combust any bedding. Many of the UTH out there have a note in the instructions to connect them with controllers like a rheostat or dimmer switch. If you have a uth, unregulated and a cool ambient then it is possible that your snake will cook itself trying to get warmer. If the cage ambient air is warm enough and they are just using the pad to raise their core temp a bit then it is less likely they will burn themselves.
