PAC MAN FROG Question(s):

Jerseyguy Oct 20, 2005 04:25 PM

Have two (2) new Pac Man Frogs, Looking for some basic info - substate? Moss? Currently, I'm using damp paper towels, with some Moss (they came shipped in it). They are in Critter-Keepers, as they are only the size of a Silver Dollar (Why on earth put them in a 10-Gallon Tank????!!!)
How warm do they need it?
the last Pac Man I had was a large Albino, and she died....it looked like she inverted her stomach --- I came home and this huge 'thing' was hanging out of her mouth. Does anyone know what it was? I think it was her stomach (or tongue or something).

Thanks.
P Alan

YAY you got some pac mans! i love them. for substrate i use moss or forest bedding or a combination of the 2. or else forest bedding with clumps of moss that are kept moist. i usually keep thier temperature between 65- 75 F. a heat pad is usually fine if your house is a decent temperature. feeding: smaller ones eat crickets, mealworms, and pinkie mice. make sure to keep youre hand out of the way if feeding by hand. my bigger ones eat feeder nfish, fuzzy mice or pinkie rats, superworms, wax worms, just about anything. im sure you know not to keep full spectrum UV lights on amphibians since you have kept frogs before. by the way i dont really know off the top of my head what happened to your other frog except maybe some kind of parasite. good luck with your new pac mans, and remember that frogs can eat something roughly the size of them. and i would use tongs when feeding mice rats fish or anything your feeding by hand. they will nip you.have fun with your froggies!

i had one invert its stomach, died within a week. not sure why it inverted it. i would put a pacman on wet paper towels since it is effectively no risk of impaction and is easy to clean and tell when it needs to be cleaned, and is also relatively easy for them to burrow in. the only other thing i would ever put them on is bed-a-beast, it is easy on their skin and i have never heard of it impacting. it is harder to tell when it needs to be cleaned though. anything with visible pieces of wood chips or anything like that is a big no no as it can cause impaction, even in larger specimens.

why keep in a 10g? because in about 2 months it will be too big for your kritter keeper (which by the way costs more than a 10g)
