My new Leucistic Texas rat

JDalbo Oct 20, 2005 04:32 PM

I finally got me a Lucy 2 weeks ago. After reading all the horror stories of Texas rat snakes, I'm happy to say mine appears different (so far). He hasn't tried to bite me at all.

If you are using the pack of cigarettes as a permanent hide, it isn't the greatest idea. Lingering tobacco smells could have negative effects on your snake. And his children will be addicts!

That`s great. My TLR is about 2 years old and has calmed down better than my Everglades has. My ER is a mean sucker for some reason. Good luck with your snake.

Soooo jealous! I want one so bad!!!

Did you buy it in person or order it from a breeder? Once I talk the boy into letting me bring anouther snake home, I'm getting a Leucy...but have to find one of those token calm ones.

They're so beautiful.

They're great snakes. And I wouldn't worry too much about the disposition...Most of them can calm down very nicely in a very short time (if they DO start out nippy). Get one! If you can get one at a reptile show or other place where you get a chance to handle it first, even better. Duffy

Oh, I definatly intend to get one eventually, and insist on being able to hold if first.

The trick is convincing my boyfriend that I need to bring anouther snake home! Hahaha. We're currently building a custom tank for my Corn, and figure once that's done (in a few months) I'll have a perfectly good empty tank on my desk...so I don't see why I wouldn't be able to fill it!!

VERY NICE! My Leucistic Texas Rat (I named him MacLeod) came from SMR. He's looking as good as yours is too. I heard (AFTER I BOUGHT MINE) that some of these are getting really bug-eyed from in-breeding, but haven't really seen one that qualifies as such yet. Yours isn't and mine definitely isn't. So, I guess we must be buying from the right people.
