Southern California Breeding

After three weeks of non-feeding for an "automatic" male and a larger than usual girth for a female I decided today was the day. I guess it really was. This is the first breeding for both animals and apparently instinct is alive and well in the animals. Within 10 minutes of being place together, they are locked up. I've heard many of you mention approaching storm fronts and the low pressure systems that accompany them as your trigger to place animals together. We've got another low pressure system moving in after a few days of our first fall rains. I guess it works.

I wish someone had mentioned the incredibly stong odor of the male's musk. Glad I have the animals in the garage. How long are you typically leaving pairs together? I'd assume after this breeding you would pair the animals again in a few days....
