Freedom Breeder Rat Rack

Hoopy Jul 21, 2003 01:02 PM

Hello All,

Do any of you know what kind of rat breeder colony can safely fit in each tub that the freedom breeder rat rack system uses? What I mean is, can you put a 1.4 group in each tub? Can you put more or would you guys (the ones familiar with the freedom breeder rack system) suggest something different?

and personally they are a waste of money..

you could build something yourself, which will work just as well if not BETTER, for less than HALF the price of a freedom breeder setup..

i also wouldnt run more than 1.3 per cage.. regardless of what they say about running 1.6..

imagine 3 moms.. each with 15-20 babies.. the heat and smell alone would be bad enough with that many animals, let alone 6 moms with litters..

best of luck

Dan makes an excellent point about space for pups. After all, keeping them health and growing them quickly IS the name of the game.

I don't know what size they are but here are some guidelines you can use.

I USE FREEDOM BREEDER RACKS AND HAVE 25 LEVELS OF THEIR SYSTEM. PERSONNALY I DONT THINK I COULD HAVE GONE WITH A BETTER SET UP. JESS AT FREEDOM BREEDER IS AWSOME AND ANSWERS ALL THE QUESTIONS I HAVE.

TO NOTE ALSO THE AMOUNT OF RATS PER CAGE. I RUN 1.1 THERE IS NO NEED TO OVER POPULATE AND RUIN YOUR LITTERS BY OVER CROUDING. YOU GET THE GOOD PRODUCTION ANYHOW. I DO THIS AS A BUISNESS AND SUPPLY A GOOD NUMBER OF THE STORES UP HERE IN ALASKA AND THE 1.1 FREEDOM BREEDER SET UP IS BY FAR THE BEST. IF YOU WANT TO BUILD YOUR OWN THEN THAT IS FINE. WASTE YOUR TIME AND LABOR, SWEAT AND BLOOD ON SOMETHING THAT MAY JUST FALL APART. ITS NOT NEODESHA SO IT WONT GO OUT OF BUISNESS EITHER.
