help ig is sick.......

roxie1972 Oct 20, 2005 09:07 PM

hi all,

My ig is not eating is very lethargic, no bowel movements for 5 days.
I have been feeding through syringe baby food, water, and pedialyte. I have made sure the baby food is only vegtables with water.
I have taken her to a vet but he is at a loss. (we live in a small town and they are not very knowledgeable when it comes to exotics) We have done xrays her belly is full of gas no eggs. Her bone structure is good so we have ruled out mbd.
The vet did an internat exam and could not feel a blockage. However there is an unexplain something on the radiograph that is denser than bone. Could this possible be parasites? i don't know if they show up on a radiograph.
we are at a loss.
i realize that you all are not herp vets, however we are at a loss as to what to look for next. The vet gave her an antibiotic but there is no change. Im sorry i cannot remember the name of it. She regularly gets fluckers liquid vitamin. she has a uvb light however it may have been old as i do not remember when i bought it. (like an idiot i forgot to write it down) however i have replaced it just in case.
if hanyone has any ideas please let me know

thanks

did you ask you vet if he/she can do a fecal exam? that would show any parasites your ig has and could prescribe the right meds to get rid of them. if she is eating but not pooping you can try putting her in warm water and just rub her belly(underneath)and it might stimulate her to go to the bathroom. are there any other vets in your vicinity you could contact? oh and i just thought of something, what about JumpStart? i have never used it but i have heard good things about it. it comes in a tube(i think) and you can get it at most petstores. sorry i cant offer you anymore help.
good luck

there is no other vet that would look at her. and because she has not pooped in so long there is no fresh fecal. I have been giving her baths to help with dyhydration but i haven't been rubbing her belly, I will try that. also what is qick start?

thankyou so very much for your help.

jump start gives her extra calories and stimulates her appetite. It works well.

Hi there

Call this vet. Explain that you're in a small town with no exotics vet and your vet hasn't a clue.
Maybe he can help you. He specializes in reptiles. He's my reptile vet. He's the only vet in New York City here who's hospital only takes care of exotics.

I hope that helps.
I hope your ig gets better very soon

Hi again
Herp girl is right. Get a fecal exam. Try jumpstart. I'm using that right now with my babies and it is a great tool and will certainly keep him going until you figure this out. Also get liquid stress ease. Spoon or syringe feed him that. Wet his body all over with the stress ease solution too. If you can't get to a rep vet go online and buy panacur and flagyl. Do both of those and that will illiminate quite a few possible internal parasites, but make sure you have him on the jumpstart and stress ease for a couple of days so the stress of the medication doesn't make him lose ground. Good jump on the feeding of pureed baby veggies. buy something called iguana dust and buy miner all calcium/d3 supplement. mix those two with the baby food liberally and give him that every day. You'll buy him tons of time until you can figure out the problem and you just might cure the problem in the process.

Good luck
