Breeder loans are when two parties decide to trade different snakes (either loan it out or trade equally) to breed out each others snakes. The most common is to loan out a co-dom male to a person who has a collection of normal females. The people then agree to a certain percentage of the clutch each gets, or money, and the deal is done.
Beware, however, since there are many shady characters out there that may take the snake and run.
It is very important being a wary person in this buisness...

If you have females, you would be sending THEM to the breeder with the expensive male, they don't give the male to you to breed!
There's lots that has to be discussed up front before any animals change hands... mostly the money part.
You have to decide on a percentage (usually 20-40% for you, with the less expensive animal) and what you want that in, if it's animals or money. Example: if you loan out 2 females, they have 8 eggs total and 4 pastels.... do you want $1200-2000 in cash or do you want a female pastel and the 4 left over normals?
If you want part of the clutch, make sure that the deal is based on WHAT COMES OUT! Don't limit yourself and say "I just want a male pastel". I had a breeding loan turn out with ALL FEMALES, which was great, but messy with the dealings afterward. Do it all based on numbers AFTER hatching.
Next is other stuff like if something goes wrong. You HAVE to discuss who has responsibility and liability for the animal while it's at this persons house! If it gets sick, who pays the vet bills? If it dies, by no fault of the breeder (or by fault of the breeder), what happens then? Will you take your females to be checked for parasites, etc, before? Who will pay for that?
Make sure you feel comfortable being able to go over there and check on your girls if you feel the need. Check on how they do breeding, how they incubate, and if it looks perfect and proper.
GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING AND TAKE PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Discuss a time line, as to when you will be picking up the snake (separate from the eggs hatching? same time?) and also what to do if your girls don't take or don't lay fertile eggs.
For the eggs, does the breeder get them established when they hatch, or do you? Do you sell the babies if you want cash, or does the breeder sell them?
If you can set up a breeding loan with a breeder with a good reputation, you shouldn't have any worries. It's a great way to get started!
Good luck,
Jessy
PS. most of what I learned about breeding loans came from Corey Woods, I'm mostly just repeating what he's said in the past in posts

You don't have to be local you just have to trust the person to whom you are sending your animals.
Christy
or rather (in my case) be the trustworthy person your animal gets sent to
what are the advantages in something like this? is it like co owning dogs w/ contract of puppies back.... in other words you reap the rewards while someone else cares for the animal and breeds, and births, and you get some nice babies without any actual work? is that why people do it? or is it purely for the morphs that someone else may have, and you want, and you have, that they want, so you switcheroo on colors? in that case why not a straight old trade? why a breeder *LOAN*?
Just tryin to get a feel for this and how it works. im new to BPs
Wondering if its plain and simple my best bet to save up some, get a really nice male, and just do a breeder loan with someone else? in the long run, is this better than buying several normal females and a male, and doing the het/inbreeding deal? Seems like that would take 4 years at minimum, with a lot of cost... whereas buying one single male and bringing in some ladies for him would be cheaper and more effective?
what does everyone think??
am i misguided?
be blunt
dont hold back
