A. granulatus, White Spot and Shedding....

btma Oct 21, 2005 12:55 AM

Below are 2 pix of the same A. granulatus.

First pic was taken on 10-8-05--(4 days after receiving it):

I have been keeping an eye on this snake waiting for it to shed. I discovered it was ready just a little while ago--and shed it by hand. As you can see the head is now clean as a whistle. 10-21-05

The White Spot did start up again--Pre-shed, but now the snake actually looks better skin-wise than when I received it.

Yes, I am treating with a treatment plan that includes, but is not limited to, Melafix. I will share what, how and why in the future.

I don't have much long-term hope on this animal, but this is the only one of 5 that I have managed to receive that were not basically living-dead. I have and will continue to learn a lot from this snake.

Enjoy

Hi Myke,

There was no exact date that it reoccurred--it arrived with the white spot, I managed to get its progressoin stopped for about 2 weeks, then it started again as the snake went further into shed. Once it was shed it looked much better, but the fungus came back like a plague. With only the one animal and setup there are too many variables for me to pin-point exactly why, but that's the way it went and I learned a lot from the experience. The animal is already history.

I think the hardest part is aquiring animals that A) are not already sick, or B) not already so stressed out that sickness is inevitable.

Dr. Lilywhite aquired animals that were shipped directly to him from Indo--that in itself eliminates a lot of the Importer/Dealer BS that stresses these animals before the final owner. He also states that under identical conditions some make it--some don't. But that's always true in the initial stages of success for difficult species.

Anyway, I'll keep trying....I'm going to get these granulatus sorted out.

--Good luck on the melafix and other treatments. I truly hope it helps at least a little. I know its always tough to loose an animal you put so much effort into and I hope it goes well. Keep us posted on the white spot treatment. BTW, what was the exact date it reoccured? Just currious because I sited a small area on mine not to long ago, near the head. I since treated it and it has cleared up, but I am wondering how long a typical white spot infections stages last. Good luck, keep us posted.
