Uncalcified eggs???

pcole Jul 21, 2003 01:32 PM

My female veiled laid 44 eggs yesterday morning but I'm a little concerned that they may be uncalcified. The photo is below. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Pete

Yes...I am quite familiar with that article. I'm looking for some opinions on whether based this photo others believe these eggs to be uncalcified. Opinions please.
Thanks,
Pete

My chameleon also layed 44 eggs! From your picture, it seems that their calcified. But to make sure, you might want to put the eggs infront of a powerful light and see if any veins are visible. If you dont see any, DONT THROW IT AWAY!!! some eggs have to grow the veins first, and even then, dont throw it awy till you are sure they hatched. Good luck with the eggs, post pics of the hatchlings!

Anthony:
Thanks for the response. I plan on sticking with the eggs till the end. I have seen photos of clutches that resemble mine that go on to hatch just fine. I'm hoping for and expecting the best. I guess I'm just an overly concerned expectant parent I'll let you all know what happens...in about 6-9 mos.!!! ARGGGGG!
Thanks,
Pete

Yeah man, that totally blew me off too! 6 to 9 months? Polar bears have the same period of time! But, it is a small price to pay. I noticed you where using pearlite as a substrate. I am using it too, do you like it? So far, ive had no problems with it, except some ants decided to invade! I got rid of them though. Well, good luck!!!

From the photo they look to be just fine. I had a WC F. verrucosus that died on me, so I cut her open to find 32 eggs. I removed the eggs post-mortem and started to incubate them. I had tried to find anything I could on wether these eggs were fertile or infertile, but the only thing that anyone could tell me is that as long as they do not show any signs of dying(i.e molding) do not throw them away. Who knows in 4-5 months to 2 years you may have chameleon eggs that start hatching. I know its not a precise answer, but when dealing with chameleons and their eggs I've learned that everything is imprecise. The Verrucosus eggs have been incubating since the end of February and while I see no signs of development, none have began to mold, so I wait. Hope that helped.

Sincerely,

Larry Lockard

This is a picture of my female veiled's clutch of 47 eggs for comparison. These were laid on 06/29/03. She laid 21 eggs, died a week later, and I extracted 26 eggs. I don't know if mine are well calcified or infertile, but I'll go on incubating as if they're healthy until they tell me otherwise.
