Average weights

KMWilson Oct 21, 2005 12:39 PM

Hi,

After having kept a variety of species, i recently aquired a crested gecko. One piece of information which i have not been able to find is average weights in grams for adult males and females.

The male I have now weighs 24g and is supposed to be 1 yr old.
He seems healthy, although i have not seen him eat, although it may be possible that he has eaten some of the mixed crested gecko diet, it's hard to tell. I am now monitoring his weight just to play it safe.

So, how about it? What's the(average) weight of your adult crested geckos?

Thanks,
-K

as long as your gecko is well rounded, and filled out in the tail ( if it has it's tail) and the tail bone isn't sticking out, i wouldn't worry about it too much as long as it doesn't drop in weight. also, the eyes should look well rounded and not sunken into the head.
i have males that are one year old weighing anywhere from 20-36 grams, and older specimens from some keepers will weigh as much as 55-65 grams.

Hey,

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to assume that the weights being posted are with tails unless otherwise noted. Any weights for female geckos?

It seems as though my guy is off to a good start, -He has eaten out of a dish while in my hand and gobbled up some crickets.Very neat species.

females could technically breed between 20-25 grams, however i would extremely discourage anyone to do so. i would wait until they are atleast 30-35 and preferably above. females can successfully breed for many years above 35 grams, and some weighing in at nearly 70 grams!
tail weight is approximately 10% of the total mass.
so a 31.5 gram female without a tail would be ready to go.
