Crested with fish / other lizards? Any suggestions?

toddkeesey Oct 21, 2005 12:40 PM

Hello, I have a custom made terrarium with an aquarium in the back. The aquarium is about 7 inces deep and has sloped sides on two sides, glass in the frount and a waterfall in the back. I am planning on heating it with an underwater heater. I also have several fake plants to provide hide spots. The terrarium has about one foot x 20 inces of floor space (excluding the space taken up by the terrarium) and has about 3 feet of vertical space (glass on three sides, rock waterfall on the back). I figure it is about 50-60 Gallons. I have several branches/vines ect for climbing. I am not concerned about humidity because a) the waterfall will add to it, and b) any additional humidity needed will be done with a fogger on a timer. As well heat will be kept in range with a irridescent light (as I live in Canada and my house can get cold!). I am going to be runnning a fiter that will filter about 200-350 GPH (as it will be running the large waterfall feature), the filter will have foam and activated carbon parts.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for tankmates (I have read lots of the posts here and know what most of you will be thinking...). I was thinking guppys once I get the aquarium set all running, but was also wondering about getting another lizard/amphibian. My Crested is too youung to sex (very young!). Does anyone have suggestions regarding fish and/or another lizard?

Thanks to everyone who replied to my inqury about FBT's - They are going back to the pet store (still cant believe that a breeder would sell them to me without any mention of the toxins... good thing you guys are here!)

well,i don't know if i can really suggest any animal you think you should put in a set-up like that with multiple species. while it sounds like a very interesting and well thought out set-up, i personally don't think it is a very good idea to house multiple species together for several reason ( meeting all requirements for all species, species eating, bothering, killing, or transmitting disease parasites etc.)
but if i may give you atleast one suggestion, i would wait until your crested is a good 6-8 months old and over 10 grams before i would put it in an enclosure like that or you will never see or find it once it's in there.
