almost melanistic!

kyronb Jul 21, 2003 01:50 PM

this critter was found under a board in my yard and he seems to be almost melanistic. the only thing is he has a very very slight top stripe that is visible. he is about 6" long and is not unhappy being handled but not too happy either.

ignore the red in the pic, i dont know why the camera did that, his underside is totally black, but he does have a white chin.

Where do you live? Very nice, looks melanistic to me. You may have a new line of melanistics. Is it an eastern garter? I know the only melanistics I've seen are Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis. If it's not one of them you may have the only one. Thanks for sharing, Scott.
