DELTA AIRLINES SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

happysurgeman Oct 21, 2005 01:40 PM

i got my het albino female today at Delta cargo after it was missing for 24 hrs. well i got what was left of it.....
some idiots in Atlanta crushed , smashed and ripped the box and everything in it including my Het the poor thing was crushed to death it was packed well and it even said Careful Perishable this end up and all that on the box.It had been dead for awhile because there were flies inside the box I have a picture buti coudnt bring myself to post it. And the Delta cargo guys were joking about cooking it and eating it. I just hope in the future they break a box with a Mamba in it and it gets loose on their ass.

This was my first time ordering an animal and having it shipped to me.

If it was shipped Delta, it should have been insured. That won't help with the death but neither the seller nor the buyer should lose their $$$. It's obvious that they did not handle the box properly and the death is the result of their mishandling.

Sorry to hear of your situation.

U.S. Airways is no better.
We shipped out an animal in the begining of August and not only was the package delayed but my customer recieved the package empty. U.S. airways tried putting the blame on me and told the customer he had better speak to me becuase I did not put the animal in the box. Thank god the box was inspected by security officiers here in NY, because that is the only thing that saved me from looking like the theif. Anyway, after the security officier verified that the animal was in the box when it left NY, I was cleared, but the animal was still missing. After my customer told them the value of the animal and made a police report, they started jumping through hoops and amazingly recovered the animal that they accused me of not putting in the box, in there cargo department in Philly. It was sitting in the deli cup it was packed in, hiding behind some boxes in the office. Someone opened the package, stole the snake, then resealed the box and shipped it to my customer.
The story gets better. U.S. airways tells us that they will ship it in the morning because there are no more flights that night. I immediately called the person in charge of shipping the package and explained to him that the animal cant get to cold and MUST be shipped in a styro box that was insulated. They told me NO PROBLEM....The next morning they shipped the box and my customer picked it up. This time they shipped it with the snake in the box, the only problem was that they shipped it in an 1/8 th inch plastic box with a cardboard lid duck taped on. To make a long story short the animal was a frozen pop sickle. Oh ya, the snake was valued at $75,000.

Lucky me !!!!!

US Airways.
Had one shipped to me. They lost it. Next day the mail man delivered it on my front steps. It died less than six month later. A 4k animal too.

I have a question. If you paid that much for a animal then why would you ship it anyway? If you can aford that much on an animal you can aford to go pick it up. Why take the chance.

I lawsiut is under works, but I am going to be up against a very large airline that probably has an entire law firm on staff full time.

So I have hunter for the best lawyer out of Manhattan and I am probably going to be into this for thousand upon thousands and years before an out come...

The question I keep asking is, is it worth it?

I hope so......

I have had had a great relationship w/ NW Airlines. No verified shipper crap DELTA pulls - plus NW seems to appreciate our business unlike the more commonly used "BIG NAME" in the business.

ladywhipple02 Oct 21, 2005 03:22 PM

If you guys can, go with one of the smaller airlines when you ship stuff. Trust me, the smaller airlines will make it worth your while . They actually care about their customers and about the customers they serve through carrying cargo. Many of the big lines have gotten SO big that they no longer have the inclination to care... they know they're going to get their money, so why should they worry? The smaller airlines have had to work their way up. And the reason they're making money and the larger airlines are losing money right now? Customer service.

Trust me, I'm in the biz. Stick with regional carriers.

Can you give an example of the smaller airlines and how to go about getting them to ship a snake?

albinosunlimited Oct 21, 2005 03:36 PM

i had delta leave a snake on the runway. when it finally got to az. it was dead. the guys at delta cargo wrote on the box doa delta's fault. the snake was insured so i sent all the info to delta. 3 months later i got a letter saying they would not pay. i thougth about getting a lawyer but come on it would have cost me to much time and money. i treatened to call peta or one of those groups ( whick i truly hate) but then thought if these places got involved delta would stop taking animals delta and these big airlines got us all by the balls

no wait i think u hit the nail right on the head. Delta cant sacrifice loosing their animal shipments because they also do pets. we should go to PETA .

im just extremely paranoid about not getting my money back after reading some these replies. I make 7 bucks an hour and loosing $670 is something i cant do .
There is no telling what i will do to Delta if they dont pay me back.

John Q Oct 21, 2005 05:14 PM

insurance is BS. Why do so many breeders insist on shipping via Delta? I've received packages via Delta 2X. The first was a nightmare. Missed a connection, arrived hours later, but safe. The second time was very smooth, no issues. Both breeders wanted to use Delta and both said it was because if something went wrong, the package was insured. I responded first to the original post thinking that all Delta live cargo would be insured and it was just a matter of filing the claim. From all the other post it seems that there is no point in even using Delta. No more reliable than other services, 3 months to pay a claim, refusal to pay for a dead snake when the death was their fault, etc. So why insist on shipping via Delta?

AllStarMorphs Oct 21, 2005 06:10 PM

I only use Delta and have never had this kind of problem. Delta has always take extra steps to make sure that the animals arrive on time (and often even early) and in good shape. However, lately I've been hearing about others having issues with their service. I've also noticed that my local Delta logistics office has many new faces. New people who make a lot more mistakes. I find myself correcting them all the time. Remember that Delta is going through restucturing and bankruptcy . I think all the new people are from the veterans opting out with they're retirement plans. Yes, mistakes can happen. It's alway a bad thing to lose an animal.

I purchased a 1.0 Pastel and he arrived on time, darn near frozen!
They had shipped him partially in the refridgerated section, because when I pulled him out of the bag he was starting to develop condensation. My very first Morph and I was a wreck. I contacted Mr. Davis and explained the situation which was the same as when he got Platty Dad. He instructed me on what to do, which I believe saved my baby's life. I am now awaiting a decision from Delta regarding the Claim, which I won't hold my breath on getting any fair decision.
What made it so sad, was the fact that the pastel was named after my Brother who was killed in Iraq.

I can relate to both your brother (I have a kid brother who is an active duty SEAL... in and out of country all the time) and receiving animals frozen. Mine was from a VERY big name breeder who shipped 2 $20k animals without heat packs. Upon arrival, the animals where limp and non-responsive. Delta had three logistics managers respond and were helping me fill-out the claims forms. During that time I continued trying to warm and revive them. I soon discovered they weren't dead. They're doing fine now. The breeder's response was "don't worry... they can tolerate extreme temps for short periods." I found that sometimes the bagage compartment's heating system doesn't work and yes... it can get cold. I always use heat packs. It's only costs a couple of dollars more!!

I also will be praying for both of your families. My brother in law served a year and a half in Iraq and Afganistan. Having served as an MI interigator, he has had a lot of difficulty since he got back looking for a new job. It is a shame how just a few people that are out of control can cause problems that make everyone look bad. He said the looks he gets if the subject comes up are nothing when he thinks about the fact he got home without any injuries as did everyone else on his team.

I'm so sorry about your loss. That's terrible. A few weeks ago DHL lost my het albino ball python in 100 weather and he arrived dead. I was so devastated. I wish the best for you and hope you can get a healthy snake soon!

Sweet mother of pearl, i'm gonna have to ship my snake down the line (I posted a while back) now I know i'm gonna need to do alot more pokings-into how to do it properly. If you guys can answer an ignorant one, why delta? I would have assumed you'd use something like UPS or fedex, and if i'm right they have their own planes and I'd assume because they do just packages they'd be more careful / used to such a situation. Or am I missing something and all that stuff gets put on delta's planes?

BelgianBeer Oct 22, 2005 02:37 PM

I had a shipment of Aru Island Chondros go missing for a week through Delta, when I finally received it 8 of 10 were dead and the other two died in less than a week. This happened in 1996 and never ever received compensation even though they were insured.

combs reptiles Oct 23, 2005 12:41 PM

It could happen with any airline.
I have never had a problem, besides delays which can happen to any airline.
I see the problem, as hiring low life bottom of the barrel help.
They dont want to pay anyone a decent wage to be responsible, with items which requires the highest of responsibility.

Before you know it, they will be hiring only people that cant even speak english.
I live in south west florida, so i see alot of non english speaking workers everywhere.

They just need a higher caliber of employee.
To me it doesnt seem that hard, take the box, put it on the plane take it off the plane give it to customer.
where problems occur it seems, is when the box has to change planes, thats to complicated for some.

All in all its not too bad with delta as far as my experiance goes, but theres always room for improvement.

I have had animals shipped through every way... and all in all the best bet is the USPS... but they dont accept snakes. DHL is the WORST. I have lived in 3 different states, and out of many over night packages I have NEVER gotten on overnight... most are several days late... one over 2 weeks... all live animals.

Delta has given me half forzen snakes before... and the most frustrating thing is when they are late. I am 45min from the airport... when they delay 2 hours... it makes no sense to go home... then 2 hours comes and goes... oh 2 more hours... and same game. I hate them so much. Do your job. I really hope you go under delta!!!
