Supplement help for the Newbi.

silvertarpon Jul 21, 2003 02:18 PM

Hi everyone, I will be getting my first chameleon shortly(a 3 month old male Sambava Panther), and I am still confused about which supplements, and how often, I should give him. I live in Michigan, so there will only be a few months out of the year that he can be outside. So basicly he will be indoors with a Mercury Vapor light (Capture the sun). So if anyone can give me advice on supplements I would be very thankful!

Use Rep-Cal with D3, or Miner-All (I). This is the indoor version which means it has D3 also.
For vitamins use RepCal Herptivite.
Most of these are alot cheaper online (such as at www.exoticlizards.com) than they are in pet stores.
Calcium every day or every other day, vitamins once a week i beleive.

Hi - Check out Dr. Susan Donoghue's site. Recommended by my breeder and it is what I have been using. She uses all natural ingredients, specific for species (e.g. montane, lowland etc.) also has crix food and lots of other stuff. She is a vet, makes the order fresh and dates it. If you want to speak with her call or email and she will get back to you hope this helps you out!

If you don't want to make it i would use rep cal or miner all. Miner all is cheaper online but rep cal is inexpensive at local pet stores..

Thanks for the info. guys. I feel a lot better getting advice from people with Chameleons, then from pet stores etc.

Hi-

Well this is still a sticky subject and you will get many different answers. The key is not to over supplement and not to under supplement. You can use MinerAll (I) or Rep-cal calcium and Herptivite found at most pet shops and online stores. Also it is key to gutload all insects before you feed them. Hope this helps!
