Big Burms

Kiknskreem Oct 21, 2005 08:52 PM

All these stories of the wild burms made me think... if I had to give mine up I wouldn't be sure how to go about it. Does anybody have the names of reliable national organizations or things of that sort? Might make a good sticky post at the top of the forum. Let me know what you think.

Most local herp societies have adoption programs and will take unwanted herps and find a home with one of their members. A ad in the classifieds would be a good place to start, if you can't sell it there, offer it up for free. Call pet stores and see if they will take it, and if all else fails and you can no longer care for it or get rid of it, then have a vet euthanize it.

I'm not sure if it's against the TOA but you could also offer it up for free in this forum. since you are not trying to sell it and being responsible, I don't think they will have a problem.

... but I think you got the wrong idea. The post was just for discussion's sake.

not breaking my heart at all. I don't own one burm in my collection and have no desire to get one. My personal opinion is that there are more people breeding these guys than there is a responsible demand for them. I actually overheard the pet shop where I occasionally buy rats from (when my breeders are having a bad week) tell a guy that burms only get to 8 foot on average and anything bigger is a freak of nature. I quickly corrected him and cost him the sell. I no longer get a discount for my rats from him, lol. Good thing I've only had to buy rats twice in the last 3 months. But back to the thread, I was just thinking about an option that many over look. I'm sticking with the small guys for now, at least till I get my albino retic next year.
