Hi,
I noticed some vendors at reptile shows sell knob-tailed cresteds and they are less costly compared to the ones with tails. What are the disadvantages in purchasing one of these guys without a tail besides physical appearance? Thanks!

Well, in my experiance the only "disadvantage" is; the geckos seem to be more flighty/skittish. They don't have the same confidence in themselve w/out the tail. They are smug little guys when the wanna be. LOL.

i've bought several outstanding cresteds for great prices, and for some reason people won't buy them without their tails.
if the animal is otherwise looking healthy, and doesn't have an over abundance of scars, i would purchase it in a second if it's something that stands out. makes you feel a little better putting a tailless crested in with a tailess crested to breed, that way you don't have to worry about one dropping it's tail.
Hi,
First off, you sound a little confused on the terminology. I had a hard time as a beginner in Rhacs too, but you're going to cause a fair amount of confusion if you ask about "knob-tailed cresteds". There are tailless cresteds, and knob-tailed geckos (another species and NOT a Rhac) but no "knob-tailed cresteds".
That said, from what I have read, talked to other breeders about, and experienced with my 3 cresteds, tail vs. tailless is aesthetics only. Remember that in the wild more than 99% of adult cresteds are tailless. All cresteds are individuals and have their own personality. If you see a great gecko with no tail, jump on it!
