Update on Veiled with seizures

scales53 Oct 21, 2005 09:53 PM

Had him in the sun for 3 days. Finally got my 10.0 compact lites after 2 wks (got to get a different supplier). I've had him under that 24 hrs a day since. He looks great and no seizures that we've seen for 4 days. Must have been a UVB problem although I can't believe it came on so quickly. Thanks to everybody for your responses. Going to cut him back to 12 hrs UVB and see how he does.

Glad to hear he is doing better, but 24 hours? This will keep him from sleeping and will cause a whole different set of problems. Let him get some rest....

Had one seizure this evening after eating but he is getting some rest tonight. I know photo periods are important but he seemed to need UVB so much.

Are you using Electrolyte Suppliments?

I suggest using them, and then cutting the light period down to 14 hours a day, and then 10 in COMPLETE darkness with no disurbances. The electrolyte suppliment will have visual improvements for your chameleon, and it will help them more effeciently absorb the UV.

Chameleons who do not have the right lighting schedual will develope serious negative long term effects.

Also, Chameleons can get sunburns and skin irretaions from too much UV in long periods of time. Just as humans do. Where I live, in the summer, you get your daily maximum or Vitamind D and UV in only 4-8 minutes in plain sun. After that sunburning start to take effect and UV overdosing, leading to symptoms of heatstroke.
