how did you get involved in that???its really cool to expose kids to exotics so they have an understanding of whats at stake at an early age.so,how was it???

i was asked to do it by the library... my first girlfriend and i are best friends and she knew i had them...
it was a total blast, i have not had that much fun in a long time... i'm sure they will have a few more articles about me in the future...

Great coverage Shiloh. We have a gal in my community who goes to schools and parties with her snakes. I think it would be a blast to do something like that!

yea i would love to do that too and i have the right chondro for the job.my sorong would actually enjoy it i think lol.hey, did you let any of the kids hold a chondro??or just touch them ,how are your snakes temperments??

shhawke Oct 22, 2005 02:19 PM

i dont let anyone hold my snakes... lol
i did let the kids touch one of the Aru's so they could feel how soft they are...
almost all of my chondros have vary good temperments, but as we all know none are perfect...
i brought 7 chondros to show the typical color change of the species compaired to others... and they really enjoyed that...

yea i would have suspected that you wouldnt have let them hold em.its my opinion that snakes can sense when a person is nervous.normally a chondro is a sweetheart when someone holding him is confident, but maybe if that same snake is held by someone that is uneasy,or unsure of the situation, the snake may sense that and act is a defensive manner.im not sure of this and i really have never observed it but many other animals are like this and i just suspect that reptiles have this behavior to some degree.what do you think?

MegF Oct 22, 2005 10:05 PM

I notice that my snakes recognize my scent or whatever, and are calmer with me, but I've never noticed aggressive, defensive behavior with any of them, even when held by someone who's new to snakes and a little nervous. I haven't let anyone hold my GT except my husband, but my corns are handled by everyone. I wouldn't worry about my Sorong though, she's really a sweety and I doubt she'd ever strike at anyone. God knows she's had enough provocation, such as when she was stuck in the tape, or when I was helping her shed, but she never has. Only poor mice get her wrath!
