Hi:
Holy Cow! What a collection of experts we have here!! Just after a few talks I've picked up so much information.
1) Many snake keeper become allergic to "snakes" during the routine cleaning of cages, exposure to feces or even shed skins. Exposure to venom hastens the process.
2) Epi-pens are the definative treatment for either Anaphylaxis or Anaphylactoid reactions. Many times people bitten "In the vein" don't die from the effect of the venom directly but die from the loss of blood pressure caused by the venom releasing natural blood pressuring chemicals. Epinephrine is the answer here too. Snake keepers stocking Epi-pens was endorsed by all of the venom Doc's present.
Michael Jolliff's use of his Epi-pen was very likely the correct call.
