Iguanas are for people who think cats aren't arrogant enough.

No, seriously -- have you ever met anything with the ego of an iguana? Whether they are nice or nasty, igs have always impressed me with their sense of "I'm an IGUANA." Most herbivores are wusses; igs slap back.

For me, owning an iguana is a personal challenge, in that it won't suck up to me like a dog. I have to *earn* the iguana's trust and friendship.

I own lots of reptiles -- uros who seem naturally friendly like dogs, my plated lizards who are furtive hunters, and one cantankerous iguana. Rex can be one heck of a pain sometimes, but the reward -- his trust -- it worth it.

LOL! "Cats aren't arrogent enough"!

I thought everyone was nuts for wanting to keep iguanas and since I am already nuts, I figured I'd fit right in.

I also think that they produce some sort of chemical that messes with our minds and make then seem loveable.

Honestly I think you would be hard pressed to find someone that could give you a real logical answer on that!

The challenge! I really believe that an iguana is the hardest pet, husbandry-wise, anyone can ever keep. If not the absolute hardest, then definitely in the top five. They are also one of the most expensive... the only thing more expensive being a horse (and I'm not sure I agree with that anymore, now that I know someone who has a horse)

They are a behavioral challenge as well, aren't they?

It's so satisfying to raise something so small and helpless to be something so big and strong and beautiful... especially when it's more difficult.

And, finally, personality. Iguanas have more personality than any reptile I've ever met... they remind me of a lot of birds I know.
