A while back there was a discussion on how hot/how long to bake soil or mulch to properly kill any bugs/microorganisims. I found this page, thought it might be helpful. I have always baked for 1 hour at 400F, this yielded about a 200-250F tempature of the actual dirt, seems this isnt adequate. I dont know what oven tempature/duration will work but check the link out if you like...

Oh yeah, do you think that perhaps the USDA method is overkill perhaps? I have usually had good results with 400F for 1 hour....
