It depends on the show, I didn't attend the NARBC Tinley show this year, but I did last year and I thought the prices were outragous compared to the Kingsnake classifieds.. On another note, I've heard Daytona is the killer place to be for deals.. I think it depends on the show and the person selling the snake, along with the amount of cash you have on the spot.

Portland OR is the one Im going to....
offering cash will generally encourage them to go lower? Ill have to remember that. thanks

Anyone ever gone to a seattle or portland show and know how the prices are?

I went to two shows this year San Diego in March - prices were competitive market prices - and Anaheim in September - prices were very much below market. Most breeders will be happy to dicker - depending on what you buy you could save yourself some money - most won't turn down $2000 for a $2400 snake if the cash or card is sitting right in front of them.

Worry about if the breeder can and will replace the animal if something happens. Worry if he will call you back when you have questions about your animal.

You can get a Mojave for $5k-$7k from some, others you can offer them $3k at the show and they will take it. Id rather pay the $7k to the person that can give me what Im looking for as far as customer service goes. Not just a bunch of words either. Show me the track record! Do they start with the animal priced at $8k and when it doesnt sell in a week they lower it every week until it does. That person is lowering the prices you will get for your animals when you breed them.

Just my opinion and im sure there will be many

Good luck either way!

what kind of guarantee can you ask for? feeding willingly, and what on? if hets, guarantee that they are het for whatever? free of disease and parasites? live guarantee? (if the snake dies a week later for example) do people refund money or replace snakes? what is appropriate to ask for and what is going overboard?

All of those plus some.

A good breeder wants you to be successful too. They will help you in anyway possible to help you achive your goals.

Its worth the extra money to be able to pick up the phone and ask "what do I do now". If thats breeding, health problems, just general questions or just to say whats up.

Let me give you the example. My friend mike is just getting into ball pythons. He bought a couple pastels & some CBB females from Andre at ASF. He picks up the phone and Andre helps him with anything. You couldnt get mike to buy from anyone else. Even at half price he wouldnt do it. He is happy and when he breeds those pastels he is going back to who helped him every step of the way to get his next morph.

Thats the breeders you look for. You shouldnt have to ask about the guarantee and I wouldnt buy a snake from anyone I even had to ask about it. Every big breeder will tell you repeat customers are the best ones. Keep them happy and their snakes breeding.........

Now I have also been to shows and seen established breeders selling snakes for alot less than they sell for, even on kingsnake. They have a guarantee too and what they do with their snakes is their business. They can give them away if they want too. So you can find good deals, but..........

PS Pits are the only dog worth feeding if you ask me!

Good luck

thanks for the tips. sounds pretty much like any dog or cat breeder (worlds which i AM quite confident in)..... you pay a little extra, or sometimes not, but you definitely get help for the life of the animal... i got a retired show champion cat from a breeder, paid all of $100 for her, and to this day, anything i need, from samples of a new kitty treat, to advice, to shampoo that he gets a discount on and i cant find anywhere, he will send me, free. anytime i want another adult cat or a kitten from him, i just have to ask. good breeders definitely make the world go round

and yes.... pits r dah best! do you have one too?

Yeah I miss that dog.

I moved from Missoula MT to south florida and I only had enough money for the dog to fly so I road the bus down. Stuff people do for animals......

They are soon parted. Pay $5-$7k for a $3k snake just because you get good customer service???? Everyone let me know when you will pay $2k-$4k for good service and I will broker some good animals for you. Give me a break!!! Buy a DVD, read a book... dont take this the wrong way, but if you really need that much help with BPs after spending maybe $200 on books and DVDs you are truly a fool. Of course ASF is going to say "Yah, you are the best you know what you are doing!" He is the one making the extra $2k.... he is also the one who was asking everyone to shun the ones selling snakes for less because they where hurting his market after he bred the day lights out of pastels...
