Purchasing enclosure... Animal Plastics?

Kiknskreem Oct 22, 2005 09:32 PM

Hello all, my burm is but a wee three feet now, but I want to stay several steps ahead of the game with this guy. I was looking at the Animal Plastics T50, which measures 84Lx30Dx18H. I like the idea of a professionally designed and manufactured cage. I also have seen a glass aquarium of similar size for cheaper. What is it that makes an aquarium so much harder to clean than an Animal Plastic for example? (as I read in another post in the forum). Obviously I'm in no rush to make a purchase, but just gathering info. Please explain thoroughly as I have never had experience with designed cages like animal plastics or vision or anything like that. Thanks everybody.

Didn't mention that I have a male, who I expect to top at at 15' (from what I've read, if you find in real experience otherwise has happened please set me straight). Would he live comforably in this, just under half his length?

AP is a great place. I have both cages vision and AP. I really like my AP one better. I am not sure what model it is but its 6 feet long and I want to say two three feet wide. I got the heater at the bottom and a light. Their customer service was awsome. I had trouble putting it together on a friday night, and called there and someone gave me their cell number to call them if I needed more help because they where closing. I bought it around X mas two years ago they had a sale I would wait until around then, after X Mas or before. It holds the humidity in there a lot better than the vision, even with me using plastic over the vents. The benefit to the vision cages is that Its lighter and the slding doors but I heard AP has those now to.

I bought my 2 vision from pet stores, and had to buy heaters for underneath as well. If I would have gone through them to buy one the shipping charges are outrages for vision. Don't get me wrong I like the cage but I like the AP one better and their service better and its almost time for me to get a new one because she is 11 - 12 ft now.

I wouldnt say that it is easier to clean, but it is a lot better than glass aquariums. I have the T25 for my male burm (going on 8ft). They give you many options (which im sure that you researched) such as radiant heat panels, flourescent (sp?) light fixtures, heat cable, and 8.5 in holes cut in thetop for overhead heat. You can choose any of these options (some with added cost). I got the heat cable (undertank heat) on one side, two of the 8.5 holes on top, one on each side, sliding glass doors(you can choose between acrylic or glass, sliding or swinging doors). They ship it to you on a heavy freakin pallet all dissassembled. I would def recommend having help when it arrives to carry it and put it together. But it does go together really easy. If you have any other questions on AP cages feel free to contact them, they are happy to answer any questions you have I'm sure. They dealt with me a lot before I ordered my cage. Lord knows that I wanted every question answered before i dropped all that money on their cages. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info guys. You both seem very pleased with the company. I've decided to buy a 75 gallon aquarium for now, even if it only lasts a year. Gives me time to save for the heavy price tag on the AP, and my Ball can move in there once "Mr. Burms" moves into the big league.
