QUESTION FOR hairijuana and his diamond caiman

kcaiman Jul 21, 2003 02:55 PM

Hi,
I'm glad to have heard from someone that actually has a diamond caiman. I have some questions for you...
-how much has it grown since you got it?
-is it really as tame as mitch says it is?(do you handle it often too see how tame it is?)
-i think these caiman are beautiful and i was wondering if you could post a picture of it. it would be greatly appreiciated!

I am very interested in these caiman and look foward to your response!

hey man
sorry i didn't get hooked up to the net sooner.
yes, he (the caiman) is tame. he knows people, and definately knows me. he's more irritable (open mouth) when other people are around, but he handles handling just fine. i try to hold him every day for 20 minutes or so, but i let him go a day without it if he has a big meal.
as for growth, it hasn't been as quick as i thought, but crocs are new to me. i've always been a monitor guy, so i think i was expecting more monitoresque growth. plus with the cooler temps these guys probably grow slower than say crocs kept warmer, like P. palpebrosus, although i have never kept dwarfs so i cannot say for certain.
i don't have a digital camera, but i'll see what i can do for getting a pic of him on here. his gold color has become slightly more greenish, but he's still gorgeous and has great contrast. i'm eager to see the adult colors, hopefully he'll keep the black jaw bands.
i talked to Mitch about the parents when i was purchasing, and he told me the parents were both smaller than average for their respective species. and the female (yacare) was the smaller of the two.
any other info, just let me know
harry
