Help, boa VERY ill

cactuskent Oct 23, 2005 06:03 AM

I came to clean my young boa's tank this morning, it smelt unusually bad, which is down to a (too) large mouse it accidently ate (when feeding another tank I dropped it in it's feeding bucket and it began digesting, didn't seem too much of a problem at the time. so I let it be)

When I picked it up this morning I thought it was dead, it drooped like a piece of rope the only indicator of life is the odd tongue flicker. It's vent is a little red and popped out. some of the skin is VERY sagging. On the floor it can slither slightly but I'm not sure whether it can use it's lower body or not. It's very lethargic and tired looking, it's really horrible to watch and I don't know what to do. As I type this it's body is in a wrinkled clump, tongue half flickering and just managing to move it's head.

Please advise.

*bear in mind it's sunday, no vets*

im very confused as to what accually happened .. did it regurgitate? did it just eat a mouse and now seems near death? the lathargic/droopy skin makes me thing dehydration but that would not be an abrupt display of symptoms like it seems you are describing.

While I didn't witness, I'm almost positive it didn't regurgitate due to the damage of the vent

it sounds like you need to make a trip to the vet. im not sure what is going on here but it is something serious.
