Besides ball pythons? I think corns may very well outclass them as most popular. They are, in many ways, the perfect beginner snake. Unless you want something really big (and/or "thick"
, the only thing negative I have heard people say is that they are "too common"...And WHY do you think they are so common? Duffy
After ball pythons, I'd have to say that boa constrictors are the most popular. Their forum moves lightning quick, the morphs are extremely expensive, and I would say they are the second most common pet snake. Even non-snake people know what a boa constrictor is, and as a matter of fact Maya Angelou even mentions boa constrictors in I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. Not only is she a non-herper, but that book was first published in 1969.
If you mean which species is most widely bred, I think cornsnakes.
If you mean which species is most commonly kept, I think cornsnakes and calkings are contenders.
I don't know that BPs win either of those categories.
As for which species is most popular.....that depends on what you like!

Sorry if anyone is offended but if your talking about popularity with the non snake owners or herpers for that matter then they wont know what the heck your talking about. Want an example? A few weeks ago I called 3 or 4 pet stores asking if they had BP's 1 lady said yes we have boas....Another lady said no burmese pythons here.... the other 2 asked me to explain what a ball python was.... I agree most popular snakes are either king snakes, corns or bao constrictors. Heck I didnt know what a BP was a few months ago before I got into snakes. Doesn't mean they aren't great pets, I plan to get one if I could find someone who ships them over night.
