Not trying to Open up old wounds..but

snakeofmine Jul 21, 2003 03:14 PM

a while back there was someone on here who had a really nasty retic bite.. that required many stiches.. and a huge medical bill... Im trying to convince a friend of mine - who has never owned a snake in his life - that this might not be the way to go for a starter...

If anyone has that picture.. or of the owner sees this.. could you please repost that pic for us?

"...might not be the way to go for a starter."

That's one way of putting it. There's much more... persuasive ways of putting it.

I hope he's aware of what getting the world's longest snake entails. Between housing, the manpower required to handle him (unless he REALLY wants to get hurt), cleaning, feeding, etc., a snake that big becomes an interesting, curious chore. He would have much, much more satisfaction from keeping something manageable.

I may be a little biased. The idea of owning something that can very easily think of me as a food item is disturbing.

this guy is crazy if he is concidering a retic as a first he is very irresponsible because after it gets big hes not going to want it anymore any end up getting rid of it.thats just my opinion.

Nope i agree... ive told him time and time again.. that a retic is definately something he wants to start off with. I told him the story of that guy who had gotten bitten... and how they had that snake for a while with no probelms.. then one day it just got angry and ripped his hand open.. but you know how it is... a picture is worth a thousand words

I don't understand why someone would want to keep a python that gets as massive as Retics & Burms get (unless they are a zoo coordinator!). If you ask me, this is just an accident waiting to happen. It is very disturbing to see the 10 year old kids at shows walking around with a baby retic or burm. I personally feel that you should have to have a permit to keep any snake that can get 20' long.

If not, it was on 6/11/03, and is titled, "This was not from a boa but," It is on the Boa board. Tell your friend to start saving now for the hospital bills, if they get a retic for a first snake!
Ouch!
