How often for eggs?

Jimbo Oct 23, 2005 01:04 PM

Ok, so I've pretty much experienced all there is for normal husbandry, including a surprise laying of eggs. However, it's been my understanding that if I'm not brumating, I can be fairly certain that breeding won't happen. I know this isn't set in stone, but coming out of last winter proved that I'm 0 for 1.

Now, Roxy is looking pretty fat again, though not dwarfing Runako as she did when she was with eggs. I'm worried that she's going to try and surprise me again. My question (finally) is, can she get pregnant twice a year? I thought it was pretty much once, after the winter season.

thanks
Jim

I have read theres no evidence that female uromastyxs retain sperm, but it is possible to double clutch in the same year if they mated to soon after she layed the first.

Most of the eggs would not be good, may get a couple or few survivors, but that is not enough time for her calcium levels to build back up, for proper for egg production. Also the babies that did make i, were not as strong, or active .

It may be that in the wild uro's only lay every other season.
