classdwhite Oct 23, 2005 02:55 PM

heres a few pics of my snakes. there not all corns but i just wanted to put em here cuz i like the cornsnake forum the best and i think u guys could appreciate some different types of snakes.

1st. here is my snow cornsnake. ive had him about a month and a half. when i got him he was about 10" now about 15"

2nd. my new retailed boa. i got him yesterday. he so beautiful, i love him but hes got a bit of an attitude.

3rd. my bros ball python. about 3 yrs old and 4' long. super tame and chill and has NEVER refused a meal.

i know it maybe not be a huge collection of crazy morphs like some of u guys have but i love all my snakes and i will always have a small collection of "a legless family!" hehe, anyway thanks for looking.

Where did you get her/him? my next snake (after my next corn ofcourse) will be a BP. None of the pet stores sell them around here though =(. Just like with my corn I'll probably have to order one, Most stores only sell kings and milks or these weird little green snakes with pink mouths that each fish. I like your mini zoo, I'll have a collection like that in a year or so god willing ofcourse.

Green snakes with pink mouths that eat fish? What shade of green? I would love to see pics of them if you can snap a few. They sound really interesting. Unless they are dark green, then they're probably just green water snakes.

we got the cornsnake and bp from a pet store around here. ive heard horror stories about bps not eating but mine has eaten great.

The snake I was talking about Is definatly not a water snake. It was as green as the inside of a cut in half kiwi, also its mouth was bubble gum pink. When the guy held it, it looked like a hatchling and was about to strike at me (it had its mouth open). One of the guys that worked there tossed a feeder goldfish into his mouth while the other guy was holding it and it clamped down on it untill it was back in his cage where he then gobbled it. The guy said he wouldn't get any bigger than 4 feet and it looked very vine like (real skinny but not malnourished). I have a better understanding of snakes now and want to get another one soon hopefully the one I was talking about. I'm going to see if anyone can help me ID him on another forum and see if they can post pics so I can hopefully get him or order him in the future.

Rough or smooth green snake. Opheodrys aestivus. They don't make good pets because they don't like to be handled and are fairly frail. They don't necesarily eat fish.... They eat insects. if you are going to keep one as a pet they need an arboreal cage with lots of leaves (plastic are fine) Also they need DUSTED crickets/mealworms/ other feeder insects. And most importantly, they need a UV bulb! If they don't have that bulb they will develope a bone disease and die.

Maybe it was that, lol I would have never posted on the other forum if you were 2 minutes earlier. Heck now I'm glad I didnt buy it if thats the case. That snake looked like he was about to go off on the next person that looked at him funny, and no I dont mean a hatchling way. He looked like he meant buisness to. By the way they were selling him for 70 bucks! Hehehe I love my corn.

If it was a rough green snake or smooth they should not be seeling it for 70

If it was a green, it doesn't matter how much they bite, they'r tiny and have weak bites. It sounds like it could be something else since it is $70 and eats fish though it is unlikely. It could be some sort of vine snake. Did it have a long snout? I would still like to see pics if you can get any.

matt_fl Oct 23, 2005 08:28 PM

They can actually make very interesting captives. It is commonly overlooked that they probably need UVB which will result in their death.

matt_fl Oct 23, 2005 08:26 PM

Sounds like a rough green but I've never heard of them eating fish. Interesting.

Jaysonj Oct 23, 2005 08:55 PM

His head was no wear near long it was like triangular (no it wasnt a hot snake!) in a way because thats what it looked like when I looked down. I saw a mexican vine before and he doesnt look like that. I doubt the bite would have hurt even though the guy at the store was like "WATCH OUT HE"S GONNA BITE!", I was like pfff he wont do damage though. I'm going tomorrow to see the snake if my ex isn't there. Are you saying rough greens aren't worth $70?

matt_fl Oct 23, 2005 09:00 PM

I believe it ate a fish, I was just saying it's wierd if it is a green. Rough greens go for more like $15. It could be a type of asian vine snake if it's head is triangular.

candb Oct 23, 2005 09:09 PM

even if ive seen asian vines go for under 45

You also said they put the fish into its mouth..... Do a google search on the rough green snake. Also $70 makes me a little suspicious. They shouldn't be more than about $15 max. Especially since most of them are wild caught. Take a look at google and tell us if that's it. We can work it out from there.

Looked at several pics and indeed it does look similiar to the rouch green. The only thing that I contest it being a rough green is that the mouth was pink, when it should be pale white. maybe the mouth changes color over time? Also that pet store over prices EVERYTHING, they were selling a regular milk snake for 70! and a california king for 75! I'm glad I didnt buy from there as it was really tempting. Also the cali king they had looked like a bag of bones.
