do i have to do anything to the playsand to prepare it for use as substrate for my beardie?
thanks
Hi Louie,
Yea, you'll want to sift any sand you buy from either a hardware store or a nursery.. they sometimes say "screened" but there are always stones in it.. run it through some fine screen and toss out the pebbles.. those are what normally cause impaction when everyone screams impaction from playsand... (least for older beardies).
I'd try going to a nursery over hardware stores. During the summer you can get "white" sand vs the "brown/tan" sand that is usually offered at hardware stores.. just makes it look a tad nicer I think, but it is a bit more expensive.
g'luck.
