Please I need advice and opinions on moving to Australia for school!

Hi everyone, I'm in california I've had my 4 turtles since they were babies now for 11 years and now I will be going off to college in Australia for about 3 years. I'm not really sure what I should do..I Have so many questions like if turtles can survive a 15 hour flight or how well the turtles will survive in quarrantine over there...there are so many guidelines and rules about importing the turtles all located at http://www.affa.gov.au/index.cfm . I guess I can't really expect an answer about importing things since it's not a very common issue but I love them to pieces and I don't know anyone who can take care of them. So I guess I'm asking you guys if yall know of any of reptile sanctuaries or whatever that will take great care of them til I get back or something or if I should try to bring them with me...it's all so confusing. Opinions and advice would be GREATLY appreciated especially advice from anyone who has ever moved internationally with turtles or moved turtles on a long plane ride. Thanks a lot guys!

See if the airline you are flying on will help you with transportation and such. If you have to give them up (which would be sad) there is a list of adoption agencies on this site and several are located in California. The Long Island Turtle Rescue is in New York, but I think they take animals from anywhere and they are good people. I got a tortoise from them and have talked to the director many times.

Is my understanding that some counties have banned the import of RES. They are considered a pest species in some locations. Before I worry about travel, I would check to see if you are even allowed to take them over there.
