Feeding Monitors

waspinator421 Oct 24, 2005 10:10 AM

I know this may sound like a silly question, but how often do monitors need to be fed? Every day? Every other day? Every week? I can't seem to find a straight answer out there... just feed until they dont eat is all I can find. I've cared for reptiles since I was 4 years old and so I know that some species eat every other day, and others every week. I want to know as much about monitors and their care before I commit to one. Since there seems to be a lot of experts in this forum, I thought I'd ask this question here. Thanks so much for your help!

im no expert but most monitors you feed untill they dont accept the food. you do this while they are growing and i think you can slow down the feeding when they reach max size. just wanted to get you started until one of the more knowledgeable keepers give you a better answer

Depends. I would say feed them until they get full while they are growing. After that it depends on species. Savannas can become obese with overfeeding, while argus seem to be hard to overfeed.

I'm not an expert, but there's my 2 cents.

Thanks for your info, but I understand that at each feeding it is usually best to feed them until they are full. What I am wondering is how often is each feeding? Every day? Every other day? I just want to make sure my future monitor gets fed correctly. Thanks so much!

Thank you, and how often when they are adults? Your help is much appreciated!
