Hurricane Wilma Update...

gentlemantw0 Oct 24, 2005 10:22 AM

Well it seems the worst of it is done for me (Osceola County) and we didn't get anything worth talking about. Many people didn't listen to the advisories not to put out trash cans as they would fly around and there wouldn't be garbage collection today but as I look down the street they are all still standing.

Down south they may have taken it a bit worse but the significant damage was mostly due to the tornadoes that resulted from the cold front pushing down from the north.

Not as many power outages as expected.

It looks that Fl may come out better than I had previously thought. I'd be interested to hear from someone in south Fl to see how it's going down there.

Flooding is the only issue in Central Fl.

The wind is still going pretty hard and we are getting a fair amount of rain, the street is flooded, but things are pretty good as far as I can tell. The power has only gone off once.

Well, Palm Bay. Close enough. I don't have power right now, got everything running on the generator. Everyone around has power but us and a few more houses on my street. Hope they get us turned back on soon!

The sun just came out after a very windy and rainy night and morning. The wind is still gusting around 30 MPH but no major damage in most places here in Central Florida. Lots of water, last count over 4-8" in and around Orlando so there is some flooding. Pics out of south Florida look better than I had hoped; but still some major damage in places.

Now it is starting to turn cool (68 is very cool here in FL in October - we're usually still in the 80s.)

Has anyone heard from others? Andre? Jay? Gulf Coast? Ben Siegel? Greg Graziani?

Hope everyone is doing OK.

Downed tree limbs but no damage. Power briefly out a couple of times. Nothing major. Tons of rain though. My property sits high and dry but my mom's took around 6" inside her garage.

Getting cold and they are expecting temps in the 40s. Hmmmm, 80s to 40s. Breeding season ready or not.

I am glad to hear that you are all ok (at least the ones that have replied that is) It sure has been a freaky year for storms. I hope this is it for this season, the US has had its fair share.

We got hit full force by a category 3 with wind speeds in excess of 120 miles.
Every house in my neighborhood has roof damage every pool screen is toast and most trees are down. We got power back at 12:30 am but there are 1.4 million people without power in South Florida.

Everything is trashed and there are 3 million people without power! The only reason I can go on the internet is because I work for emergency services.. We haved trees down, windows broken, and more. Another week or two with out power, great, I have been power feeding trying to wait until december and this is going to shut my balls off for the season.

We got it bad here! No power (I am at my boyfriends house who has a huge generator that runs practically his whole home). Trees down everywhere, we had a tree fall on our shed (lost all kinds of tools, lawn mower, pressure cleaner.) Our screen enclosure is the only one in our fairly big neighborhood that is still standing (and we didnt lost any screen!! Maybe because it was just replaced 2 months ago from last years storms...yes, it took THAT long to get someone to do it.) We have a small generator that runs our refrigerator, tv, and reptile heat (lamps for the bearded dragons & heat tape/cable for the ball pythons). No flooding, there was a lot less rain than I thought we were going to get. Got pretty scary there for a little while, I stood out on either the front or back porch for a good portion of the last half of the storm...saw all kinds of things flying through the air. I have been driving around, there's a couple trailer parks around town, one home in particular lost the whole roof. It's intact, laying beside the road, just incredible...like it was peeled off like a top to a tuna can. You really can't imagine the power of these storms until you have seen it all first hand. Pictures and video show a lot, but you really can't respect it until you've been through it. Now we didn't get anything near what has happened in other parts of the country this year, we were very lucky. Hope everyone else that was in Wilma's path is safe! Take care!

who run bartertown?..

deerfield is shot---no electricity-people fighting over gas--5 hour plus wait for gas if you can find--not too mention a nice cold snap right after the power went out--the whole area has a weird war zone type feel--broward county has had 25,000 utilities restored out of almost 1 million homes--a drop in the bucket.-could be weeks-no streey lights--7 pm strict curfew-no traffic signals--i guess it could have been worse-at least we got our phones back today-could have been worse i guess.
