Leo Behavior

DeltaWoods Jul 21, 2003 04:12 PM

I got my leo last Thursday and everything is going great, shes eating and all of that. But i have some questions about what i think is weird behavior for a new animal. Lots of people on here talk about their leos hiding all the time so i was expecting that. But when i come into the room too look at my leo it always comes out of the hide too have a look at me. It stays their staring at me for a while then walks around the tank until i leave. Could she be hungry and be expecting me to give her some food and that is why it comes out of the hide like that? I dont think she should be hungry. She is about 9 weeks old and ive been feeding her 7-8 half inch crickets every night. however, i am the only person to feed her so maybe she does want food from me. If my dad comes into the room she runs into the hide right away. In other news, i was able to hand feed her last night and she was even crawling out of her hide and onto my hand and staying there for a while. I didnt move my hand or take her out of the tank or anything, just let her sit there until she felt like getting off. Thanks for any advice.

I think that what you've described is a good thing. It just sounds like your leo is comfortable around you. I have a brave female tang w/a great temperment; she climbed right onto my hand within the first week I got her. Meanwhile it took almost 6 months before my other leo would even come near my hand. They're funny like that!

Sounds like she is doing great. She probably does realize that you are the one that brings food. My new female does that also buy runs like heck when someone else comes into the room. I believe that leos have a greater bond to the people that feed them compared to the people that dont. Try offering some more food to her like mealworms and other goodies like silkworms, waxworms, and buterworms.
