HELP ME BREED MY BALLS

kathryn Oct 24, 2005 06:26 PM

My female is 1300 grams my male 700 . I keep them seperate, have lowered heat at night. It just naturally gets colder as we are on East coast. I feed them (male wouldn't eat this week) female did. Put them together a few days later. They mate. Seperated again. Really Don't know what I'm doing. Should I continue to offer food every week to 10 days? Do I keep them seperate and give the conjugal visits or keep them together? When does she ovulate or can it be any time? ANY info helpful!!

You seem new, but it's good they are hooking up. (BTW- all caps denotes yelling, which may be why the responses aren't pouring in.)

Cycling them together is great, ***offer food & water when apart***-
They may or may not eat. So offer to the picker eater first & see if you need to thaw another rodent. Do 3 days together 3 days apart through the season.

Multiple breedings ensure fertile eggs... they will hook up without the female having follicles, but the only way she'll produce is when she has follicles. When she's gravid there will be HUGE mid-body swelling & she'll have no interest in the male. Also she'll camp out on the warm side of the enclosure. This takes different lengths on time, depending on the snakes (figure on months not weeks). The swelling will go down, then the pre-lay shed...
Hope this helps & Congrats!
