The C.c. foxii is no longer a recognized ssp, according to CNAH. The foxii I believe, was proven to be a color morph of, I think, the Souththern black racer C.c. priapus.
I know we used to catch them in southeastern MO and they were pretty variable on the coloration. Sometimes you could catch the jet black ones with a cream colored belly, and others would have that nice bluish overtone with the sides near the belly having a really nice looking navy blue extending down into the sides of the belly. Even here in KY, I have seen some C.c. priapus with really nice looking blue cast to them.
Racers are some really cool snakes, very alert and active, and fast as lightning if one ever gets out your hands.
